The OvalEdge Release 5.2.9 is the latest service release improvised with the Data Catalog, Dashboard, Governance Catalog, Advanced Tools, and Administration modules, and the critical and significant bugs associated with the Data Catalog, Business Glossary, Governance Catalog, Jobs, Advanced Tools, and Administration modules are fixed and working as expected.

Improvements

  • Data Catalog
    • In the  Data Catalog module > specific object detailed page > clicking upon the Lineage tab (upon crawling is done and lineage is built), hovering on to a specific object in the lineage page > three dots(…) with Copy to Clipboard and View Association options are clickable and highlighted in blue color.
    • In the Data Catalog module, when the user associates any tags/terms governance roles are updated only on Tables/Files/Reports and updates on the Table Column/File Column/Reports Column. When a user updates the governance roles on the Tables/Files/Reports, the respective columns should update.
  • Dashboard
    • The Data Lineage main page is now provided with a header title in the top left of the page.
    • In the Dashboard > Favorite Reports > a search filter is integrated with the top right of the page to search from All reports.
  • Governance Catalog
    • Servicedesk
      • When a user creates a new Service Desk request for getting access to the schema. In the service request template, the users select a schema from the dropdown and now the system displays the schema list as ‘connection name. schema name’. For example. SQL Server is the name of the connection, and dbo is the name of the schema, it displays as “sqlserver.dbo”.
      • The Servicedesk home page displays the list of Waiting, My Request, and All Request for service requests raised, and on the main page, it displays the summary with a clickable option that will navigate to the service request templates.
  • Advanced Tools
    In the Log Viewer Page, add Session-Id, Request Id, and User Id column fields are added. In All Logs, a Clear Logs button is enabled to keep 10k logs and remove the rest from the table entries.
  • Administration 
    • Crawler 
      • From the Crawler setting page, the profiler tab has been removed for the Reporting & File types connectors.
        • Reporting connector: Power BI, Tableau, SSRS SQL,  SISENSE, Microstrategy, Looker.
        • File Connectors: NFS, S3, Azure Data lake, SFTP, Google Drive Connector, GCS Google Cloud Storage, HDFS Kerberos, HDFS non-Kerberos, DSEFS Connector.
      • In the Crawler page, the crawl/profile page is enhanced with the Schedule feature with date & time. The user can schedule the crawl time by providing the information such as Date, time, and frequency of crawling as month/year/week/day.
      • In the Job Workflow page, at the time of adding a new job, the user can schedule the crawling time for multiple jobs in a single run. 
    • Users & Roles
      The roles page is enhanced with a column ‘Created on’ to show when a user role is created and ‘Updated on’ to display the date when details of any users were last updated. The Created Date column provides the date on which the Role (Eg: OE_ADMIN, OE_PUBLIC, OE_CSM) is created and the Last Updated column provides the date on which update is recently done in the Roles.
    • Manage Servicedesk
      In the Manage Service Desk, when the user edits the service desk template, the name of the template selected is displayed at the top of the template.  
    • Advanced Job 
      • The Advanced Job - Upload Business Glossary and associate Term CLS - now the Steward and Reviewer fields (also Teams) are now associated at the Category level and at the Domain level the admin is by default set for Steward and Reviewer. The custom field Frequency column is now changed to Frequency in Months.
      • The Advanced Job - Load Domain and Business Glossary Terms and Associate to Columns - now the Steward and Reviewer fields (also Teams) are now associated at the Category level, and at the Domain level, the admin is by default set for Steward and Reviewer. Additional Detail Tab and Previously Assigned Group columns are added to the excel sheet.

Bug Fixes

  1. Data Catalog
    1. When a specific Table object is searched from the Table column field using special characters, the URL was not working if opened in a new tab. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
    2. In the Queries tab, for a selected query the Governance Roles option applied using the nine dots button was not updating the roles. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
    3. In the Queries Tab, Reports associated with Power BI, clicking upon the nine dots to add or remove favorites, the validation message was not being displayed. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
    4. In the Table Columns tab, when a new view is created using the Customize view button and if the ‘Last Modified By’ column is included, then an error message was being displayed. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
    5. In the Reports tab, the Path field column was not showing appropriate results even though the entered keywords existed in the path. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
    6. In the Queries tab, when a continuously sorting filter is applied to the column fields, an error message was being displayed. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
  2. Business Glossary
    1. In the Business Glossary, when a user selects a term and publishes it, the system is restricting the user to enter the purpose of the term in the ‘Add purpose of initiating workflow’ window. Now, this issue is resolved, and the user can now publish the terms without adding any purpose.
    2. In the Business Glossary, when a Term is assigned to any object and removed, the masking policy is showing undefined in the Administration > Security module. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
    3. In the Business Glossary, when a term is added and data is added to the term from the Associate Data tab, and recommendations are run from the recommended objects tab - the sorting filter was not working for the Databases/Table Columns/Report/Report Column tabs. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
    4. In the Business Glossary, when a user wants to load metadata from files using Template then in the Business Description page > Related Objects, the new terminology is not getting displayed, rather it is showing undefined. Now, this issue is now resolved and working as expected.
    5. In the Business Glossary > Edit Related Objects page, the issue related to displaying the related terms after selecting ‘is related to’, ‘contains’ conditions is now resolved and working as expected.
  3. Governance Catalog 
    1. Governed Data Query
      1. In the Governed Data Query, once the entries are executed, the matched results are viewed using the View results but the execution result page is unable to display the governance roles (Steward/Owner). Now, this issue is fixed and working as expected. 
    2. Data Quality Rule
      1. In the DQR rule, when a DQR function rule of ‘THIS COLUMN VALUE SHOULD BE UNIQUE(FC)’ is associated with the objects, once the rule is executed it got failed. In the execution result tabs, when the user taps on the view icon, the first 50 failed values are not shown in the execution results tab. Now, this issue is fixed and working as expected.  
      2. DQR rule VALIDATE PATTERN PERCENT(TC): When a DQR function rule of ‘VALIDATE PATTERN PERCENT(TC)’ is associated with the objects, once the rule is executed it got failed. In the execution result tabs, when the user taps on the eye icon, the first 50 failed values are not shown in the execution results tab. Now, this issue is fixed and working as expected.  
      3. DQR using Tag’s edit icon: When a new rule is added and assigned with multiple tags using Tag’s edit option. Later when the user wants to remove a tag. Assigned tags are getting removed from the page but the cross mark for the tags in the assigned tags is not removed. Now, this issue is fixed and working as expected.
      4. DQR using 9-dots: With the 9-dots option, when the user adds a tag, the existing assigned tag appears in the drop-down list and if the user removes a tag using 9-dots, the already assigned tags are displayed with a cross x. Now, this issue is fixed and working as expected.
  4. Jobs
    1. In the Jobs modules, when the ‘Load oereporttexxt table for report framework’ advanced job is run, the job step status was displaying an error. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
  5. Advanced Tools 
    1. OvalEdge API: The issue related to the users with MRDN permission being able to access a few APIs is now resolved and working as expected.
    2. Load Metadata from Files: The download option for the template is been disabled until the user with MRDN permission was able to download the template and add a business description to a table and upload a file. Now, this issue is now resolved and working as expected.
    3. Load Metadata from Files: Business Glossary Template 
      A downloaded business glossary template was not displaying the Governance Roles defined in the security governance page. Now, this issue is fixed and working as expected. 
    4. Load Metadata from Files: Report Template with data
      When the user chooses the option to download the template with data, then all the fields and information present in the reports tab should get displayed but the downloaded template with data was not able to display the ‘last modified date’ field and its data. Now, this issue is fixed and working as expected.
    5. Compare Schema
      In the Compare Schema, when the two databases of the same type are selected for comparison. The result is placed in two columns when a user clicks on the sort button on the result column. The sorting functionality is resetting the database selection to default values. Now, this issue is fixed and working as expected.  
  6. Administration
    1. In the QlikSense connector, when the user clicks on the column detail to create column lineage, the error message of null exception was displayed. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected. 
    2. In the QlikSense connector, when the user clicks on the Reports and tries to get the lineage object details, the error message of ‘Failed to convert value’ is displayed. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
    3. In the QlikSense connector, when the user clicks on the Reports Column and column details, an error message is displayed to add the columns using plus icon. This issue is now resolved and working as expected. 
    4. In the crawler page, the search option with conditions was not working properly, and also when the user wants to search for Servername/ IP address by using conditions, the condition was set to Default and the user could not change this condition. This issue is now resolved and working as expected.
    5. In the crawler page, when the user wants to run sample profiling in the Setting Profiler page for HBase Connector, it was successfully performed but, after profiling when the user wants to Crawl/ Profile that HBase connector, an error message was displayed, which is now resolved and working as expected.                    
    6. In the crawler setting page, when the user was adding Include/ Exclude information for a particular connection, if the include/excludes information was the same, then it was showing an error message. This issue is now resolved and working as expected.
    7. In the Crawler > Build Lineage page, when the user wants to build auto lineage, the status in the auto lineage page and the status appearing in the correct query page after validating the query were not the same. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
    8. In the Crawler page, after Building Lineage for a particular connection, an unwanted File Connection is generated and is displayed in the File Manager. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.
    9. In the Security page, whenever the user updates the governance roles. It is not reflected in the Security → Application tab. Now, this issue is resolved and working as expected.

Known Issues

  1. Administration
    In the Administration, Crawler Information page, for the RDMS Connectors there is a known issue related to the ACL Permissions, where if the user crawls the schema an error message related to the user not having permissions is displayed.
  2. Advanced Tools
    In the Advanced Tools, Build Auto Lineage, there is a known issue related to the OvalEdge Lab functionality, where if the user runs the advance job for Process SQL statements in the local environment, the jobstep status is displaying an error and in logs, it is displaying as Thread 1 Error while reading files.
