File Columns

File Columns in the OvalEdge displays all the profiled file columns from different file systems similar to files. You can perform a detailed search to identify and understand the file columns. 

File columns 

Description 

Type

Depending on the file type (FILE or FOLDER), it will filter the results accordingly

File System

Displays the connection name of the File.

File Name

Displays the name of the File.

Column 

Displays the column name of the File.

File Location

Displays the specific location of the File.

Access Cart

The Add to My Access Cart icon is displayed if the Default Project is set to My Access Cart Project. It adds the selected File to the default Project, which is set in the Project module

Tags

Display the Tags assigned to the database object. The Tags field is editable; click on the Edit icon to edit and assign tags to the object.

Term

Displays the Terms assigned to the database object. The Terms field is editable; click on the Edit icon to edit, assign, or remove tags to the object.

Business Description 

Displays the business description added to the database object. It is editable; click on the edit icon to edit the description. 

Technical Description 

Displays the Technical Description added to the database object. It is editable; click on the edit icon to edit the description.

Popularity

It displays the count of the number of times users have interacted with this data object by viewing, endorsing, commenting, adding tags, or querying it. 

Importance

The importance score of a data object is calculated based on the number of relationships, lineage, and references it has with other data objects. It helps users decide how vital this data object is across the organization.

Project

There is a provision given to add a default project to the data object. click on the Add to project icon. 

Steward

Displays the name of the steward.

Custodian

Displays the name of the custodian. 

Owner

Displays the name of the owner. 

Governance Roles

Displays the name of the Governance roles. It can be configured from Administration > Security > Governance Roles.

File Column Details 

The Columns used in each file is saved for a quick search on the File column page. The File related information is displayed in the respective Summary, Data, Lineage, and References Tabs. Click on the File name, it will navigate to the summary page with the View Details buttons.

The view details button is available once the file is profiled you can click on the view button to correspond to various tabs of a file.

Once you click on the View details button, it will display the respective Summary, Data, Lineage, References and Column Details tabs.

Column Summary

The metadata details and profiled statistical summary of the File Columns are displayed.

Fields

Description
Business Description Business description related to the file object is displayed. You can edit the business description if required.
Technical Description Technical description is displayed. You can edit the business description if required.
Terms It displays the associated terms with File column.
Tags It displays the associated tags File column
Type The column type represents the data type or values the column holds. Some common data types OvalEdge supports are Integer, Date, String, and Float.whether it is .xls , string, .csv, json.
Length The length of a file column defined in the remote database.
Distinct It displays the number of unique values in a record without any duplicates or null values.
Null Value Null values are unknown values that represent a missing or blank field. It is important to understand that a Null value is different from a zero value.
Popularity The Popularity Score displays the number of times the users interacted with this data object by viewing, endorsing, commenting, adding tags, or by querying the data object.
Importance It displays the importance score of file object.
Access Informative instruction can be viewed.
Quality Index You can raise a Report of a data quality issue on a Data object if you find any gaps or inconsistencies in the data. 
Last modified date It displays the date on which the last modifications are made to the data object. 
Service Request Count It displays the count of service requests made on the Table to Request Content change / Request Access / Report Data Quality.
Maximum Value It displays the maximum value from all the records in the table. The Maximum Values are extremely useful to find the largest value from rows in a column i.e., highest-paid employee, highest selling product, or most expensive product that helps in taking business decisions. The value displays NULL if the table has no rows.
Minimum Value It displays the minimum value from all the records in the table. The Minimum Values are extremely useful to find the smallest value from rows in a column i.e., least paid employee, low selling product, or least expensive product that helps in taking business decisions. The value displays NULL if the table has no rows.
Top Values It displays the top 50 records (rows) of a Table column. You can sort to view the values in alphabetical order starting from A-Z or numerically.
Top Users Tops users are the most active users who have viewed, commented, and collaborated with the data assets, and their scores are determined based on their roles and permissions.

Column Lineage

It displays lineage flow between a specific File Column to other linked data object columns in the application. The Column Lineage is shown using the source objects and destination objects to drill down deep into data assets to view summary and query codes.

Column References

File references list all references made from a File to other data objects in the application. The benefit of having solid reference data is that you can confidently drill into subsets of your data to gain business insights. 

In this section, a user can find all the referenced data objects the query is associated with.  It displays the column references with the Category/ Reference From/Reference Object type/ Reference Object details.

The following are the User Actions that can be performed on the File Column using the Nine dots option

Description

Process Upstream/Downstream objects

The data objects certified as Caution objects can be applied to the associated downstream objects. Also, this option can remove any applied Cautions from the associated downstream objects.

Additionally, you can copy the metadata (Tags, Business Description, or Technical Description) to the associated Downstream or Upstream objects based on Lineage. The copy of metadata can be applied to all the levels or up to a defined level of the lineage.

Profile all Files

Profiling a file allows you to collect the file column statistics. To profile a file, it should be first cataloged. When you have different levels of cataloged files in your root folder and subfolders, you can profile all the files in a single click using the profiling all files button.

Add to Impact Analysis

You can manually add the File to see the impact of the File on other objects (Upstream / Upstream with associations / Downstream / Downstream with associations in the application. The Impacted objects are displayed in the Advanced Tools > Impact Analysis.

Send Messages

You can send messages to the Owner/Steward/Top users for any concerns. Refer to Collaboration to learn how to collaborate with team members.

Uncataloged Files

You can Un catalog the Files using this option. Uncatalog will remove the files from the data catalog module and will no longer be available for search.

Servicedesk

  • Request Content Change - You can raise a Content Change request on the File to change the associated business description/term/tag in that data object.
  • Report Data Quality Issue - You can raise a Report of a data quality issue on a File if you find any gaps or inconsistencies in the data. 

Apply Certification 

Data Certification is giving approval by ensuring the definitions and data are consistent, timely, and correct. It lets you filter reports based on their certification status.

  • Certify - If the data object complies with the rules assigned for certification policies, it is marked as Certify. 
  • Caution -  If the data object contains conflicting information, it is marked as Caution. 
  • Violation -  If the data object has inconsistent and suspect values, format violations, values out of range, or violates DGR rules, it is marked as a Violation. Example: In a File, if it is pre-defined to have 15% null values. However, the t has only 12% null Values. In this case, the File is marked as a Violation.
  • Inactive - If a data object is not used for a more extended period of time, then it is marked as Inactive.
  • None -  If the data object needs to be removed from any of the above certifications, it is marked as None.

Configure Search Keyword

You can configure the searchable or relevant keywords added to the tables so that the end-users can search the content for which they are looking from the database more effectively.
